In order to improve the performance of a catalyst, it is essential to signifificantly reduce the size of a catalyst particle. The size of the ultimate performance catalyst particle is as small as several nanometers (order of one-thousandth of one-thousandth of one millimeter). In addition, we are also promoting the clarification of the forming principle of various nanostructures and the development of nanosizing technology to satisfy the need for forming not only the catalyst itself but also the carrier for holding the catalyst and the catalyst layer for controlling substances contributing to the reaction.
The nanostructure plays the roles of a reaction field for chemical substances and, simultaneously, a demonstration field for new physical phenomena. We are promoting the clarification (science) of such new physical phenomena and the practical application (technology) utilizing the research results.
