IMRA JAPAN, namely IMRA JAPAN Inc., was established in Eniwa City, Hokkaido, in November 1990 (and subsequently moved to Sapporo in May 1992) as the third Research Institute of IMRA (Institut Minoru de Recherche Avancée).
The IMRA initiative means "to create a network of knowledge that connects Japan to European countries, the United States of America, and Asian countries in order to contribute to human beings through the harmonized development of science and technology." In fact, IMRA JAPAN has been closely related to IMRA Europe from the time of establishment, and active personal and academic exchanges have taken place. Hereafter, we wish to continue research and development while working hard together on the themes enabling global contribution to human beings.
In addition, we also play a role of "knowledge accumulation" in significantly developing Asian countries. We will make our best efforts so that Asia, which is currently a global factory (technology), can hereafter explore a new era to lead Europe and America even in the scientific field.
IMRA JAPAN is adjacent to the Nopporo Primeval Forest, which was handed down by a pioneer group from the Meiji era to posterity 100 years hence. In addition, in the same Meiji era, Dr. Clark, the first head teacher of Sapporo Agricultural School (current Hokkaido University), established the foundation of the frontier spirit, the basic principle of Hokkaido University, using the words "lofty ambition."
It may be inevitable that Mr. Minoru Toyota established the first IMRA in Asia in Sapporo, where the principles dwell of the pioneers in the Meiji era foresaw an era 100 years hence and of Dr. Clark whose idea bloomed 100 years hence.
We will contribute to a future 100 years hence through research and development prospecting the enthusiasm of overcoming our pioneers.
